Try to think of some less obvious examples, such as buttons and icons.

What could be critical to your message?

Images generate an emotional state or provide details in a multimedia environment. An unassuming picture can speak a thousand words. It can appeal to your audience in a silent way. The internet is no different to any other media. In a training presentation, an image may be a simple smiling face in a learning situation perpetuating a human connection. However, images for icons and or buttons should be simple in design.

An example would lead an audience to more details on the subject. Consequently, sparing use of images speeds up web page loading time. It is critical to connect with quality material which includes specific images.

I agree, download time is critical in how long someone will stay on a website.  People make a decision to stay on the site in seconds so if it takes too long they’re gone.  Also, there are many web designers that overload their web pages with too many graphics or other multimedia where the visitor to the site is overwhelmed.
